Electronic microchip and registration: the key to your pet's (and yours!) security
Hi dear friends in the Petait community! We know how much you love your pets, and so do we! Just as we take care to provide them with the highest quality food and the most pampering equipment, it is important for us to talk to you about an equally vital issue - the obligation to implant an electronic chip and register in the national dog database in Israel.
So what does this actually mean and why is it so important? Let's get it sorted:
What is an electronic chip?
An electronic chip is a small device, about the size of a grain of rice, that is inserted under the dog's skin, usually in the area between the shoulder blades. The chip contains a unique identification number that is associated with the dog and its owner in a national database.
Why is it necessary to implant an electronic chip?
Israeli law requires every dog over the age of three months to be microchipped and registered in the national database. The reasons for this are many and important:
- Easy and fast identification of lost dogs: Imagine the terrible anxiety when your best friend disappears. In such a case, an electronic chip allows veterinarians, charity workers and city inspectors to scan the chip with a special device and quickly identify the owner's details. This increases the chances of an exciting and quick reunion!
- Combating the phenomenon of stray dogs: Organized registration helps authorities monitor the dog population and deal more effectively with cases of stray or abandoned dogs.
- Owner responsibility: The law places responsibility on dog owners, and implanting the chip is an essential part of accepting this responsibility.
- Preventing illegal trade: Proper registration makes it difficult to trade in puppies and other undesirable phenomena.
- Public Health: In cases of bite incidents or diseases, rapid identification of the dog can aid in treatment and prevention of spread.
The implantation and registration process:
Microchipping is a simple and quick procedure, similar to vaccination. It is performed by a licensed veterinarian. After the implant, the veterinarian will update the dog and owner's details in the national database. It is important to ensure that the details in the database are updated with any changes (such as a change of address or phone number).
What can "Petite" do for you?
Although we do not perform the actual microchipping (that is the veterinarian's job), at "Petite" we care deeply about the safety of your pets! Therefore, we recommend to all our clients:
- If your dog is not yet chipped and registered - don't hesitate! Contact your veterinarian as soon as possible to have the procedure performed.
- Make sure your details in the national database are up to date. Changing your address or phone number may delay reuniting with your lost dog.
- Come and consult us about additional equipment: With us you can find quality collars with space for a name tag and an additional phone number, in case of emergency. We also offer a variety of strong and safe leashes for pleasant and safe walks.
Implanting an electronic chip and registering in the national database is not only a legal obligation, but first and foremost - a smart and responsible step to maintain the safety of your beloved pet. We see you as partners in the journey and we are here to support you in any need. Do not hesitate to contact us with any questions!
